Description

Zuccardi Concreto is made from a selection of calcareous soils from our farms in Paraje Altamira. 100% Malbec with fermentation and storage in concrete. Part of the wine ferments whole bunch. It expresses a great herbal character with notes of red fruits, strawberry, cherry and plum, which are complemented by distinctive mineral notes. In the mouth is prolonged and deep. A wine of great structure and complexity. Vinous 94 points - Concreto is a declaration of intent: “This wine encourages me to accelerate the process we’re already committed to,” said Sebastian Zuccardi. Unaged, this Malbec from Paraje Altamira was fermented in whole bunches and has become appreciably more precise in recent years. Intense purple in color. The nose offers raspberry, blackberry, fresh plum and black olive with hints of violet. The tightly packed, restrained, chalky palate offers firm tannic bones and energy. Bloody and elemental; the concentration is somehow maintained even though the wine feels light and flavorful on the tongue..October/2020 The Zuccardi wines I tasted in April were consistently superb and the estate’s top wines are among the finest being made in Argentina today. Zuccardi owns several prime sites in Uco Valley, including their two highest vineyards in Gualtallary and San Pablo, both of them rich in calcaire. Like some of his colleagues who are seeking to preserve terroir differences in their various wines, Sebastian Zuccardi vinifies mostly in concrete tanks and eggs, and also makes extensive use of concrete and used foudres to age his wine. He told me that he hasn’t purchased any new barriques in the past four years. The Zuccardi wines are hardly cheap but they are well worth seeking out. - From Argentina’s Wines Enter the World Stage (Jul 2018) by Stephen Tanzer Zuccardi expressed through each of its wines, the essence of their origin, the unique and perfect combination of climate, soil, altitude and human work. Each line of Zuccardi wines represents a concept, a belief, a tribute, is the true expression of the vineyard where it was conceived. 100% Malbec from a small parcel of very shallow calcerous-drive soils. The wine is fermented and aged in unlined concrete vats, mostly eggs. 50% of the wine is fermented with whole clusters. The resulting wine has a deep red color with violet hues. Familia Zuccardi is a family owned winery started in 1963 when they planted the first vineyard in Maipu, then a desert region, followed in 1973 by a second vineyard in Santa Rosa, another desert.
